What data we collect
Email address which is passed from your chosen authentication service to us and used to identify you. We do not display this publicly nor sell it to third parties. This is stored for the life of your account.
Performance statistics which is displayed publicly on questions you create as well as your user profile page. This is stored for the life of your account.
Usage statistics which are used to evaluate and improve the site and improve your experience as well as understanding and improving our marketing.
Advertising performance data is collected so that we can evaluate and improve the effectiveness of our marketing.
Audit trail data is kept when any new items are created we keep track of where they came from to be able to audit the origins of data and key events on the site. This is kept for as long as the content to which it pertains.
Diagnostic logs for ensuring the security, safety and smooth running of the site are kept for up to a year. Specific incidents (eg. a major security attack) may be kept indefinitely.
Additionally, we keep backups for the purposes of disaster recovery which may store this data additionally for the life of the backups. Typically we keep backups for 1 year.
Browser Cookies
A cookie is a small piece of data stored by your browser on behalf of a site and is transmitted back to the site when you access the site.
We use cookies for storing a session token which links your experience across different pages on the site (eg. where in a quiz you are, what the last subject you used was). Session cookies expire at the end of your browser session.
When you sign up and have logged in to the site we also use cookies to hold information for your convenience such as the last OpenID provider you used (stored for 6 months) and a token to allow you to login to the site more quickly (stored for 3 months).
Software we use to gather usage statistics sets cookies stored for up to 50 days.
When questions are created anonymously (without logging in or registering) we set a cookie to allow you to later register and take ownership of your anonymously created questions. This cookie is stored for up to 365days.
